SmartBear Announces Acquisition by Francisco Partners

Investment by Leading Global Technology-Focused Investment Firm to Support Company Accelerated Growth

SOMERVILLE, Mass. May 3, 2017 SmartBear Software, the leader in software quality tools for teams, announced today that Francisco Partners, a leading global technology-focused private equity firm, has acquired a majority stake in the company designed to support the company accelerated growth. Terms of the transaction were not announced. 

SmartBear is highly profitable and has been growing at double digit rates for more than five years. The investment by Francisco Partners will help support the company’s growth which has been fueled by the demand for solutions to manage the application lifecycle and the rapidly expanding API economy. Francisco Partners has a strong track record of successfully accelerating growth in technology companies by providing M&A expertise, market guidance and capital. 

With software permeating all sectors of the economy, the need for easy-to-use tools to help developers build and test new applications continues to grow. The interconnectedness of these applications through APIs is also forcing businesses of all kinds to re-think how they interact with and best serve their customers. SmartBear Expands Presence in Galway, Ireland with New Development Center

API Development Team Added to Growing Sales and Marketing Staff at EMEA HQ

SOMERVILLE, Mass. and GALWAY, Ireland – Mar. 13, 2017 – SmartBear Software, the leader in software quality tools for teams, today announced the expansion of its EMEA headquarters in Galway. In addition to a growing number of sales and marketing staff, SmartBear has added a development center with a focus on the development of API testing and documentation tools.

SmartBear’s Galway office opened its doors in 2014. To accommodate the new development center, SmartBear has expanded to new space located at the Mayoral House providing an additional 2,500 square feet. With this continued EMEA growth, the company is on track to create up to 100 jobs in its first five years at the European headquarters. The announcement of the development center is a testament to SmartBear’s continued innovation in the API ecosystem with tools to manage the full API lifecycle from design and development to retirement.
