Olive Communications’ Safetybank wins SaaS Product of the Year at the Tech World Awards

Olive Communications’ digital safety management platform, Safetybank, was recognised as the SaaS (Software as a Service) Product of the Year at the Tech World Awards 2014. The event was held in London on 20th November.

The win caps an incredible two week period for Olive and Safetybank, during which they have either won or been highly commended at five different awards ceremonies.

The Techworld Awards highlight innovation on all sides of the IT industry, and the SaaS category was hotly contested, with seven finalists. The judges were looking for new SaaS products that push the boundaries of functionality and usability, allowing enterprise users to easily access vital corporate information from anywhere, on any device.

On the same night, Safetybank was highly commended in the Cloud Based Technology category at the Construction Computing Awards, alongside its customer, Higgins Group. And earlier in the week, the IET Innovation Awards (Institute for Engineering & Technology), also recognised the innovative and disruptive capability of Safetybank, highly commending it in the Built Environment category.

Jody Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer for Olive Communications and founder of Safetybank, said: “The endorsements we’ve received over the last week from a very wide range of well-respected industry and technology experts are incredibly pleasing. The SaaS and cloud market is highly competitive, but we believe we stand out as our application not only helps to improve business processes and increase efficiency, but helps to reduce lost time through injury and save lives in the construction sector.”

The week prior, Olive was awarded the Mid-Market Reseller of the Year at the CRN Awards, and the UK IT Industry Awards chose Safetybank as its Innovation and Entrepreneurship winner.

Martin Flick, CEO, Olive Communications, said: “Something very special is happening at Olive. The hard work of our team and the decisions we’ve made as an organisation over the last eighteen months are now being brought to bear. Winning awards demonstrates that the market is recognising the unique path we’re taking, and a number of major UK organisations have recently endorsed our approach with the award of some significant new and long term contract wins. These, along with the external recognition, provide us with a fantastic platform for 2015, and we’re looking forward to greatly expanding both our connectivity and business applications areas next year.”

Borland positioned as a “leader” for the third year running* in the Gartner 2014 Magic Quadrant for integrated software quality suites report

For the third year running, Borland, a Micro Focus company (LSE: MCRO.L), has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the “Leaders” quadrant of the 2014 Magic Quadrant Integrated Software Quality Suites report. The quadrant is based on an assessment of a company’s ability to execute and completeness of vision.

Borland has continued to innovate its Silk Portfolio – a comprehensive set of quality and performance tools for desktop, web, cloud and mobile. Recent updates include load testing virtual private networks (VPNs), web page optimisation, cross browser testing across web and mobile web applications, and support for Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure in addition to Amazon Web Services.

According to the report, “Testing is one of the key processes in the software development life cycle. The market has been steadily maturing to deliver improved user success, but technology changes like agile practices, mobile computing and cloud platforms can complicate vendor evaluation for testers and test managers.”

Archie Roboostoff, Borland Solutions Portfolio Director at Micro Focus, added: “Our commitment to a continuous stream of innovation in the software quality space, including mobile and agile, aims to deliver on the ever changing needs of our customers where quality is about much more than functionality.

Continuing, Roboostoff said: “Our rich feature-set and wide integration capability means we enable our customers to validate quality across any device and any application running on any infrastructure. The end result is applications that work, perform and have a strong user experience.”

Borland’s range of software in the distributed testing tool market has full support for the development life cycle, including tools for assessing code quality and integration between requirements and change management. The company has also put a focus on how to deal with highly distributed teams who collaborate to develop, test and deliver software applications – particularly the needs of customers who use outsource partners in a “supply chain” of software development.

In 2011, the Google Science Fair awards were open to 13-18-year-old students for the first time across the globe. It is an online science and technology competition sponsored by Google, National Geographic, Lego, Virgin Galactic and Scientific American.

Just recently, Cambridge International Examination awards were won by 31 Mumbai students, and it seems our little masters are keeping up the consistent spirit and determination.

India’s Garimella and Dilbagi won these awards in the under-13 category and Voter’s Choice Award respectively.

Arsh Dilbagi, a 16 year 12th standard at Dayanand Anglo Vedic Public School from Panipat, won the award for his project ‘Talk: An Innovative AAC Device For People With Developmental Disabilities’.

The Voter’s Choice Award is given for project that the public judge has the ability to make the significant impact. This is awarded to those who secure the highest public vote.
